Concert!

Our orchestra played concert #1 of 3 last night. The theme was music from film. It is a fun program! I thought we played very well. The program was

Star Trek Through the Years - Custer
Prince Igor Overture - Borodin
Outdoor Overture - Copland
Fantasie Brillante - Borne
On the Beautiful Blue Danube - Strauss
Movie Suite from 'Year of the Comet' - Mann
Our Town - Copland
Raiders March - Williams

On Sunday we play an outdoor concert at the Ballard Locks, and we will add
The Colonel Bogey March
The Liberty Bell March
and Stars and Stripes Forever

I have been outed...sort of. When I arrived at the venue, our conductor stopped me and said, is cellogeek your blog? I said, why yes, it is. He said that he figured out it was me...someone who plays cello in the Microsoft Orchestra and who travels a lot (I miss a certain number of rehearsals because of travel)...had to be me. He was right!

Oh my! You been found. And by your Maestro of all people.

I sometimes secretly hope that my blog gets discovered too ... but there are a few posts from last year that could get me into a little trouble with some of the "powers that be." I've never mentioned any names, but it wouldn't be hard at all for someone in our orchestra to figure it out.

Nice program! "Bogey" is a really neat piece to play. What arrangement do you have?

We have a band arrangement by Andrew Glover, so I had to play the 2nd trombone part (not very cellistic) in the key of D-flat and then a change into G-flat. Fortunately I managed to keep most of it in 4th position, so it wasn't too hard even when we got to play some melody for about 32 measures. Listening to the trombones helped somewhat too.

Have fun on Sunday!

Yep, I've been 'outed' by a friend of mine too... She goes to my school and plays in my youth symphony, so I wasn't too surprised. Still, it's kinda funny, since it seems like my "real" life and my blogging life should be seperate! ;D

Hope your concert went well in the heat!

Eek! D-flat and G-flat! We played an arrangement by Alford, in the very string friendly keys of D and G. It must an orchestral arrangement. I can't imagine playing "Colonel Bogey" at breakneck speeds in such unfriendly keys - it was hard enough with all of the open strings we could play with the Alford arrangement.

Thanks for the good wishes MusicGal! I can tell from your blog which orchestras you play in, so it's not hard to see how someone who knows you can figure out who you are from your blog!
