My main exercise this week is to hold the bow without using my thumb. I'm allowed to put my pinky (curved, which I struggle with) on the top of the bow to keep it from falling. I am dropping this bow constantly, so I'm careful to keep my cello away and the bow over a carpet. I'm supposed to be doing finger exercises too, such as pushing the bow down with my pinky, but so far I am just struggling to hang on to the bow.

OK, my teacher has asked me to do every conceivable combination of two fingers, but never without the thumb. I guess yours is a pinky-on-the-stick proponent.
Interesting! I don't think I'm coordinated enough for this!
well, the pinky on the stick is just for the purposes of this exercise, otherwise it would be nearly impossible to keep the bow from falling. I've got other exercises that I'm doing that are supposed to develop flexibility and strength in my fingers...
I guess your teacher knows what sort of exercise you need...we hope. Good luck with that!
Cellodonna raises hand like Tom Hanks in the movie Big and says, "I don't get it."
